Dear [Personalized greeting],
The State of California is suing the Trump Administration over the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)’s recent moves to dismantle AmeriCorps.
AmeriCorps California is a core part of the California Service Corps, and California Volunteers, Office of the Governor is fighting to keep them serving our state.
DOGE’s cruel efforts don’t make government work better; they make communities weaker and betray the American spirit of service and unity. They are cutting AmeriCorps members who are supporting our teachers and students in our classrooms, improving our parks and responding first to our disasters.
AmeriCorps is not bureaucracy — it’s boots on the ground. It’s young people assisting in disaster recovery, members planting trees that will shade neighborhoods for generations to come and seniors mentoring children.
Last year alone, more than 6,000 AmeriCorps members in California performed more than 4.3 million hours of service and mentored nearly 74,000 students. When the LA fires hit in January, service members were among the first deployed to help 26,000 impacted families and deliver 21,000 food boxes to those in need.
Dismantling this program is outrageous and illegal, and we won’t back down. Share your story about how AmeriCorps has impacted you or your community on social media and tag @CaliforniaVolunteers.
